Friday 1 April, 2016 saw the official launch of the Pelvic Floor Research Foundation. The main aim of this non profit foundation is to enhance research collaboration between Cape Town and other international stakeholders in the field of Urogynaecology.

We are very proud to have Prof. Roovers on board from Holland. He brings a wealth of research knowledge and we look forward working with him.

During his visit we held a pelvic floor workshop at Groote Schuur hospital (Urogyanecology 101: back to basics) that was well attended by physicians from all over South Africa. Research in the near future includes a clinical study looking at a new type of bulking agent for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence. (Urolastic)

We are in the process of experimenting with a new type of nanofiber mesh that we will hopefully be able to test in animal studies in the near future as part of a research collaboration with Prof. Roovers and the University of Cape Town. We will keep you posted!

The pelvic floor research foundation will be launching their official website in the next few weeks:

Watch that space!

Kind regards,

Pieter Kruger
